Good day,

Thanks for the information on the templates directory in the Glassfish distribution. Is it possible to have more than 1 domain template and then choose at deployment time, for example when asadmin create-domain is issued?

Regards,
Mark P Ashworth

NetBeans 7.2 has backround scanning implemented, which means that once you have done the initial scanning all subsequent scans happen in a background thread and do not block the UI. Beta's coming soon, please give it a try.

In NetBeans the feature is available in the popup menu item "Set Configuration". But for IDEA I cannot find a menu item named "Set Configuration" in the popup menu that shows up after right clicking on a project node (which is a maven module with several profiles) in the Project view. Am I missing something?

re:

I was not able to switch between different profiles for the module, for example IDE, release, etc. Maybe it is somewhere but I have not found it yet.

it's possible using the "Set configuration" popup menu item on the project node.

Hi Masoud, nice blog. FYI - starting with GF 3.1.2 you also need to add "X-Requested-By" header to every state changing request (i.e. for HTTP POST and DELETE) as the admin REST ifc started using the CsrfProtectionFilter from Jersey - see http://blog.alutam.com/2011/09/14/jersey-and-cross-site-request-forgery-csrf/
Maybe you could update this blog entry with that information.
Btw, if you used Jersey Client API instead of Apache HTTP client, adding the client CsrfProtectionFilter on the client side would be the way to go. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.
To complete my jdbc connection pool configuration, I would have to add properties detailing the server name, user, port number etc. Any suggestions on how should the json string look like for adding properties during connection pool creation?

I will follow up on the JNDI lookup too. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

I need to create a jdbc connection pool programmatically since the pool configuration is dynamic. Hence in an actual environment, the web application deployed in glassfish will create a jdbc connection pool.

I was able to create the pool by having a look at the code in this post. Now how can I retrieve an instance of javax.sql.DataSource so that the web application can then further use it to create database connections.

The two suggestions you provided doesn't suit the above requirements
1. @Resource(name=”jdbc/datasource_Name”) because the pool creation is dynamic.
2. How can construct an instance of javax.sql.DataSource class from the xml response retrieved by using the resource url "domain/resources/jdbc-resource/jdbc_res_id"

Any more suggestions?

I am not sure if I understand the question completely but you can use @Resource(name="jdbc/datasource_Name") to inject it into a Java EE component and use it if it is what you meant. You can retrieve the newly created data source using a resource uri like .../domain/resources/jdbc-resource/jdbc_res_id

The 3.1 does not have the AMX beans support. For more information you can take a look at another article I have in my blog which explains it in more details:

I was quite surprised when I read your article about removed JMX/AMX support in GlassFish 3.1.
We use it for monitoring our production servers and currently we are migrating from GlassFish 3.0.1 to 3.1.1.

So I fired up VisualVM and connected it to our test-server with 3.1.1 and there I do see AMX MBeans!

So I don't understand... can you enlighten me?

Your code is missing the part that reset WatchKey to be able to catch further events. Since your code runs only once, it's not necessary, but it's necessary for those who want to handle multiple notifications.

Ah Andrew,

JMS 2.0 is going to be backward compatible with older version. So even if you use JMS api directly you can transit to JMS 2.0 with no issue at all. If you use Spring JMS then you will be wrapped in the Spring JMS API and wont anything about the underlying changes or API.

If I'm using JMS 1.0 via spring framework will I protected from JMS API changes?

We are looking to replace RMI w/JMS 1.0 starting next month. Although we may put it on hold if JMS 2.0 can not be swapped as the implementation for Spring JMS.

Hi,
Looks good from the perspective of a Java EE 7 EG and EC Member (me)
I'll have some of my colleagues dealing more with JMS in the project look at it and see, if they have comments based on their JMS 1.x experience.

Btw, unless you're a "Dirty Harry" fan, please fix the typo:
> Standardizing the interaction between Clint and the provider...

Cheers,
Werner

I am having lots of trouble accessing the DomainRoot object of AppserverConnectionSource in gf v3.1. Not able to find much info in the Net either. Basically I want to create a JDBCConnectionPoolConfig using the DomainRoot object but the code that ran on gf v2 to do this does not work on gf v3. Any hints/tips/advise would be much appreciated.

Hey Gordon,

Thanks for mentioning the type in the text. I fixed it as It was supposed to be the return type and it ended up as signature. I will update the current post or write a followup with utility methods as well as sample content of the configuration files and the configuration file names.

Thanks Medhi,

Do you have an example of the utility class that you use? Can you provide a couple example xml file names?

For the methods, are you referring to String[] for arguments? If so, in Java 5 and Spring 3, you should use varargs instead (String beans...)

Nice post.

I'm not java developer but I understand the functionality. I will try to implement it and integrate with my PHP web-app documents management. What I want to create is a syncing full-duplex from the remote folder and local folder (and vice versa).

I will need an authentication for registered user too.

What do you thinking about?
Do I expect some troubles for link a remote path?
Path path = fs.getPath("URL.COM/home/masoud/Pictures"); ??

The class was removed from the FCS of GlassFish v3. this article were written during the gf v3 development time when the class was still there. I am not sure what classes sublet its features but I will look for it during this weekend.

Hello, I've tried to monitor a Glassfish server using AMX, however I cant find the AppserverConnectionSource class anywhere. I'm using java 6 with a glassfish v3 server. I've found the class in jdk 1.5 but it doesn't seem to exist for 1.6. I've also tried to look for it in the glassfish amx-* jars but I haven't had any luck. Is there a new way of doing this?

Great article, I was looking up to the metrics part and I stumbled on the part talking about consuming the metrics from the OpenMQ queues. With this messages I'll try to work on a "metric storage/reporting" tool with charts and summarized data on how is the MQ performance over a period of time. If you have any advice on that I'll gladly hear any comments...

Supriya,

Maybe you have not download it properly. Try downloading the jar installer of the latest version, b110, and see whether it works properly or not. The downloads are available at the bottom of this page:

http://dlc.sun.com.edgesuite.net/jdk7/binaries/index.html

Let me know the result.

Thanks for this great article. I think I'm 99% of the way to figuring this out, but I ran into a snag.

1) I'm using Spring 2.5.6 and Spring Security 2.0.5, and the package for AuthenticationSimpleHttpInvokerRequestExecutor is org.springframework.security.context.httpinvoker, not org.springframework.security.remoting.httpinvoker. I got that problem figured out though.
2) Now I'm stuck on a different problem. After setting this all up, the http client side throws an exception when connecting to the server:
java.io.StreamCorruptedException: invalid stream header: 0A0A0A0A

I think it's choking because when it connects to the server it gets redirected to the login page for the app. Is this because I've got it set up to use a login form instead of basic auth? Is there a way to do this with a login form? The whole rest of the app is working great with a login form.

Hello,

I believe there's a very important mistake in you Guide. The backup-domain command no longer exists. Quoting the CLI itself:

asadmin> backup-domain
CLI194 Previously supported command: backup-domain is not supported for this release.

I don't know how to perform backups in version 3.0.1, but if you find out how, please correct it in your guide.

Cheers!

Miguel
